Generally your ability to communicate in English is basic and limited to familiar situations. You frequently show problems in understanding and expression. You are not able to use complex language.

 

At the moment you are able to:

  • listen and understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance 

  • identify in oral texts the main point in short, simple, everyday spoken discourses (e.g. messages, announcements etc.)

  • identify in written texts specific and predictable information in short, simple and familiar everyday written texts (e.g. letters, menus, non-continuous parts in news reports etc.)

  • orally communicate in expected and/or familiar situations that require a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters

  • orally describe in simple terms aspects of your background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need

  • write short, simple notes and messages in order to complete common exchanges and/or on matters related to immediate need and to broadly express some feelings, preferences and attitude to own peers

 

In order to progress to the next level, you should aim to be able to:

  • listen and understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters

  • generally understand written texts that consist of high-frequency everyday language in expected and/or familiar contexts

  • read and understand description of events, feelings, preferences and attitude expressed by own peers

  • orally communicate with adequate effect in most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where English spoken

  • enter unprepared into conversations on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or related to everyday life or current events

  • speak in simple connected texts on topics which are familiar or of personal interest

  • orally describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans

  • write simple connected texts on topics which are familiar and/or of personal interest

  • describe experiences and some feelings, preferences and attitude to readers who are familiar with the context
